Chapter 7

“Olly olly eyes in trees ... pop out ... say hello to StellaLuna,” she barked out loudly. She looked around and waited, but no one popped out. “Maybe I should try again,” she thought. “Olly olly eyes in trees ... pop out … say hello to StellaLuna,” she barked again and quite a bit louder, and again she looked around and waited, but no one popped out. Starting to feel a little sad because she couldn’t find some new tree friends, StellaLuna laid down on the ground by the base of a tree and began to whimper.

“What do you think Hyde? Should we pop out and say hello?” she heard a voice say. “I don’t know Zeek … she didn’t say the tree chant quite right. I think I heard her say StellaLuna at the end, instead of me at the end,” she heard a different voice say.

“I said StellaLuna because that’s my name,” said StellaLuna.

“You're supposed to say me,” said Hyde. “Not your name,” said Zeek.

“My human’s name is Me, and since he ended the chant with his name … Me,“ said StellaLuna. “I ended it with my name.”

“Me??? That’s an unusual name,” said Hyde.“Maybe it’s short for Tommy, or Jimmy, or Kimmy,” said Zeek.

“Or Amy, or Tammy, or Sammy,” said Hyde. “Could be Timmy or Bobby,” said Zeek.

“No, that would be a Be," said Hyde. “Timmy would be a bee?” said Zeek.

“No, Bobby would be the Be,” said Hyde. “How about Emmy?” said Zeek.

“M E is how you spell Me,” said Hyde. “I got it,” said Zeek. “It must be Mimi.”

“I agree, it must be Me Me. Spelled m e m e,” said Hyde. "No, that would be a meme," said Zeek.

“WHERE ARE YOU?” barked StellaLuna. “I can hear you, but not see you”.

“I am right behind you,” they said in harmony. StellaLuna got up and turned around to see two faces in the same tree.

“Hi, I am Hyde,“ said Hyde. “And I am Zeek,’ said Zeek. “We are of the same tree,” they said together.

“We love to talk and discuss all sorts of things,” said Zeek. “Would you like to join us in another discussion?” said Hyde. “You can pick the topic,” said Zeek.

“That does sound like it would be fun before I continue on my adventure,” said StellaLuna.

“That sounds like a great topic,” said Hyde. “I agree,” said Zeek ...they then started to discuss the pros and cons, ups and downs, the lefts and rights, … and the forwards and backwards of adventures. They quickly got so wrapped up in their own conversation that they didn’t even seem to notice that StellaLuna was still there, or ask what she thought. Feeling a little left out of the conversation, she decided to continue on with her adventure to see who else was hiding in the forest. So, she politely said “Goodbye” and continued to walk down the path … now knowing the correct way to say the tree chant.
